Professional head shots are becoming more and more popular and clients like to receive full body shots taken first and then crop it to their requirements for closeups.
The advantage of taking portrait shots from a distance is that client seems to pose more in a relaxed way. There is also least amount of lens distortion that might effect the aesthetics of the image.
My go to professional portraits includes posing the client standing at an angle such that photos are taken showing the right and left side their face and part of the shoulders.
Hands in the pocket, out of the pocket and formal clasped position of the hand works great for in studio portrait shots for men.
Lighter backdrop are used in my studio for portrait sessions. If client has glasses the strobes or studio lights are positioned to get minimal reflections on their glasses.
It is always a good idea to ask the client before the professional portrait session if they can wear contacts or are able to take their glasses off due to reflections on glasses.
My client in this session took off his glasses and the pictures came out beautifully.
