How to pose three kids under 8 year old in a studio session

If you have been doing family photosessions and sessions for kids for many years you will very well relate this scenario to your list of experiences as a professional photographer.

When a session in studio includes 3 or more kids and all under 10 it can be quite challenging but the most rewarding in terms of getting some amazingly cute sibling shots.

This held true here. Older brother was the easiest in following instructions. Middle sister was superbly excited and wanted to be the best helper however tears rolled quite easily if she was told it was not her turn yet! The younger brother was just starting to stand with support so I decided to get some help from the older brother and sister and start with a sibling photos first.

The kids already were wearing white shirts and blue jeans when arrived in studio . They looked so adorable in their color matching dress. I decided to make them sit on the plush carpet so they could get comfortable sooner in the new studio environment. Also the big brother was made responsible to hold the little one as sister was happy to sit and pose on her unique self.

The second set of outfits had some cute texts such as big brother, little brother, big sister. I wanted to pose them such the texts would be clearly visible but this turned the most challenging of all. If one would look at the camera and pose the other moved or all of then would move such the texts were not visible clearly.

I asked the two older siblings to sit on a low plush stool and hold the hand of the youngest brother. Baby brother was positioned inthe centre so he will have a better balance holding hands with the older siblings. He was able to stand happily this way and I was able to capture the expressions as well as the texts written on their t shirts. After quite a few retakes and trying million of sound noises to get their attention to look at the camera I finally succeeded. I find small rattles or toys that make noise can also be quite helpful in drawing their attention to look at the photographer.

Another of my favourite was to make the little brother sit up high on a prop and have the older siblings sit on both sides.

I love the twinkle in the eyes and their beaming smiles. Truly was a fun-filled and amazing session I will remember for a long time.
